This post is connected to the showing of my work at Cloud Walking in South Bend, Indiana. The images hanging at the coffee shop are all a part of my travel photography portfolio.

In 2023, I continued photographing performances regularly. I worked to create images that not only highlighted individual characters in scenes but showcased more expansive sets and more dynamic interactions between characters, scenes, and lighting.

On the first day of the United Auto Workers strike, I spent the day in Toledo, Ohio, covering the story for The New York Times. For a good chunk of the day, one of my first images from the coverage was at the top of the outlet’s website.

As I work through a commercial photo project, I constantly think about the composition and the details within the frame as I look for moments. I worked with wicked reflections, safety glasses, and finicky light in this manufacturing space to create some storytelling imagery.

In late September, I spent a couple of days in Holland, Michigan, for a Washington Post story focused on mistrust in the county and the impact this has had on the community.

It was a year of change and growth. From a solo gallery to travel articles, the work allowed me to showcase my photographic style and expand into new areas and develop new relationships. Take a look at some of my favorite images from 2022.

It was a privilege to photograph my grandmother over the holidays. We kept things pretty simple with just one off-camera flash, but we were able to create a few different looks in her apartment.
