Lacey Adams, the wife of the former surgeon general, Jerome Adams, was diagnosed with a third recurrence of melanoma. Even years after Adams left office, the two are still experiencing what they have named the “Trump Effect.” From rejections from university officials who are worried about how those who served under former President Trump would be received on campus to being trolled online, the couple continues to see the ill effects of being associated with the former president. With Trump’s recent announcement, it appears the “Effect” may continue for Jerome and Lacey and those who have served in the administration.

Recently, Jerome shared a photo of Lacey on a tough day with advice on skin cancer prevention and treatment. They were shocked to see support from a wide swath and were interested to learn more. This simple, vulnerable tweet and the replies that followed may be a sign of the end of being in the shadow of the former president.
