Since then, the lake has gone through steady changes as the realities of development become more present for those who live near Boeung Tompun. The obvious change is the mass of sand that is pumped in and continues to shrink the lake. This reduces the farmable area, decreases the lake’s ability to clean the wastewater, and reduces flooding. There is a balancing act for those who live on or near Boeung Tompun. As the lake shrinks, the residents of the communities at the lake find themselves in an uncertain place with unknown changes in a future that has yet to be fully realized.
