Using Motion & Color in Food Photography

A stack of fluffy pancakes dripping in syrup is a fantastic way to start the day. For this set of images and gif, the syrup's action and the stack's construction are the highlights, but the additional color in the backdrop adds a flair to the scene that would be lost if it was just a simple backdrop of white/gray.

For me and my food photography, I want to create images that offer a feeling in support of the delicious food in the frame—utilizing backdrops that provide a punch of color and playfulness works (especially) well with a plate of pancakes.
