Cover for Northwest Indiana Business Magazine

A two-light setup was essential for this image that landed on the cover of the Northwest Indiana Business Magazine this month.

Schuyler, the subject in the portrait, and I met at his law firm for a portrait session. The magazine has clear guidelines on what they are looking for in their cover images, which set a perimeter for the look of the pictures early in the process.

We photographed in the conference room at the firm and also in Schuyler’s office.

The main goal of the session was the posed portrait, but I added a few candid-type images in case there was additional space for the photos to run in the story.

In most commercial portraits, off-camera flash is essential. It allows for additional control and choice.

For this portrait, I utilized an umbrella as the key light and a bare bulb to add a side light to Schuyler. In addition, the added light offers a nice gradient in the background (from left to right, the scene darkens).
